Our Volunteer Program is accepting long-term volunteers for Fall and Summer Only applications - please apply using our link below!
Volunteer Categories

Long Term Volunteers
-
Are able to commit to volunteering regularly for a minimum of 100 hours or during the Spring (Jan-May) or Fall (Aug-Dec) months.
-
Volunteer on a once-a-week basis for a minimum of 4 hours per week.
-
Eligible for participation in more complex volunteer positions.
-
Will receive priority registration for HOPE Clinic events.

Summer Only Volunteers
-
Special volunteer program that is available during summer months only.
-
Weekly hourly requirements can vary, but typically begin at 8 hours per week in shifts or 1 day per week.
-
Highly accessible for in-school volunteers (ex: high school or college).
-
Community Leadership courses and workshops are available for volunteers who are in the clinic during the Summer!

One-Time/Event Volunteers
-
Volunteers may chose to volunteer on an event-only basis.
-
For every event performed, a one-time volunteer agreement must be signed unless previously registered.
-
Registered event volunteers are eligible to have their hours securely tracked and will receive event recruitment emails throughout the year - must commit to a minimum of 5 volunteer events per year.

Other volunteer locations may include HOPE Clinic - Beltway located at 7001 Corporate Dr Ste 120, Houston, TX 77036​

When can I volunteer?
-
For our major volunteer programs, volunteers are able to schedule their volunteer shifts during our standard operating hours of 8AM - 5 PM on weekdays only
-
Shifts are typically 4 hours long and can be scheduled from 9:00 AM -1:00 PM, or 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
-
Some programs may offer alternative shifts (ex: 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM, or 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM, or after hours) that will be noted on their descriptions

Do you have weekend or after-hour events?

Some volunteering opportunities may take place on weekends or after-hours!

Volunteer Programs
FoodRx/Diabetic Health

This program operates in conjunction with the Houston Food Bank in order to provide patients that are food insecure and have a high A1C level to get access to free nutritious food available for pickup at HOPE Clinic.

Volunteer Responsibilities may include:

Enrolling patients into the Houston Food Bank systems.
-
Scheduling food deliveries for patients in need of additional accessibility assistance.
-
Participating in Food Truck Market days to help distribute food packets to patients.
Location: HOPE Clinic - Alief

Shifts: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM, or 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM; Weekdays only
​
Status: This program is looking for bilingual volunteers to assist with patient enrollment (flexible shifts) and market pickup days (1st and 3rd Tuesdays from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM).

Maternal Health Program

HOPE Clinic's Centering program helps expectant mothers enroll into various health education groups, programs, or systems in order to improve their overall experience and well being during pregnancy.

Volunteer Responsibilities may include:

Promotion and recruitment for HOPE Clinic's centering service.

Distribution of maternal health supplies to mother's in need.
-
Helping patients enroll into Delfina - a partnered pregnancy tracking app.

Shifts: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM or 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM; Weekdays only​

Status: This program is open and is looking for long-term volunteers and Summer volunteers.
Scribes

HOPE Clinic is excited to welcome pre-med or pre-health individuals who are looking to gain clinical experience/hours to consider volunteering as a medical scribe. See "Scribe Program" for more info.

Volunteer Responsibilities may include:

Documentation and accurate charting during patient visits.
-
Assisting physicians with assigned administrative tasks as needed.

Hypertension Program

We are looking for volunteers to support and provide outreach and education to our patients regarding Hypertension health through use of blood pressure monitors.

Volunteer Responsibilities may include:

Providing patient education over proper use of a blood pressure monitor.
- Encouraging documentation and record keeping regarding patient conditions and symptoms.

LifestyleRx/Diabetic Health

HOPE Clinic's Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) program is in full swing and we need extra assistance with administrative tasks. Volunteers can expect to assist with event preparation and execution, and with patient outreaching to encourage continuous use and coordinate follow-up care.

Volunteer Responsibilities may include:

Creating goodie bags for patients that contain information related to diabetic health and CGM.
-
Promoting the continuous glucose monitoring program to patients.
-
Providing patient assistance through follow-up reminders, calls, and other related patient care continuity tasks.

Status: This program is looking for two volunteers for the Summer time, and a long-term volunteer for Fall.
Office Administration Volunteer

Our finance department is always looking for a hand or two to help combat the ever piling stack of papers/bills/invoices/etc. to process. Volunteers looking to gain practical administrative experience might be interested in applying to help out.

Volunteer Responsibilities may include:

Scanning, organizing, sorting, and filing various documents as listed above.

Assisting with verifying vendor invoices and bills for accuracy.

Supporting our finance team in order to ensure that our non-profit organization can continue to support the community.

Colorectal Cancer Screening

Colorectal Cancer is the third most common cancer globally and it accounts for the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths world-wide. Early detection of cancer is key to preventing it from developing and spreading. There are few, if any, symptoms of colorectal cancer - that's why regular screening is so important. We need volunteers to help aid the cancer screening process by increasing screening accessibility.

Volunteer Responsibilities may include:
- Calling and sending reminders for colorectal screenings.

Helping patients obtain at-home cancer screening kits.

Connecting patients with our care team for additional care and services.

Status: This program is seeking bilingual volunteers in English and in one of the following languages: Vietnamese, Arabic, Chinese, Mandarin, Spanish for Summer and Fall.
Marketing & Digital Literacy

Education and health information access is a major social determinant of health that can profoundly alter the health outcomes of our patients. Through increased communication efforts between the clinic and the patient, we hope to empower patients to make smarter health management decisions while increasing the accessibility of our resources for those in need.

Volunteer Responsibilities may include:
- Assist in the creation of guides, videos, and tutorials for navigating our health system.

Provide on-site assistance for patient questions.

Educate patients on navigating the Healow app, and promoting better healthcare management through use of electronic health systems.
